The mango plant is native to South and South-East Asia, and is now cultivated worldwide in many tropical and subtropical regions. The fruit varies in size and colour and is available in many varieties. It has a unique rich flavour and frangrance. Mangoes are rich in nutrients including vitamins A, B and C, and contain nearly 20% sugar. They are used in popular Thai dishes in the unripe form, and in the ripened form, served in several desserts. This delicious fruit is great with ice cream or for making a traditional mango mousse or sorbet. Mango can be cooked in curries and other savoury dishes – it goes especially well with chicken. It can be also made into a sweet chutney, or into mango pickle that is often served with curries.
