In the Kitchen with Heather (Korean BBQ)

November 27, 2020 by Asian Inspirations Admin Leave a Comment

Summertime is barbie time!

The standard barbeque grill is often the sacred domain of its owner. Usually, nobody is allowed to touch it except for the self-appointed designated cook. But that isn’t the case with Korean BBQ.

Korean BBQ is an enjoyable experience for everyone at the table to participate and enjoy cooking as they please. Interested to know how to host a Korean BBQ meal at home? Then join us in the “In the Kitchen with Heather” LIVE Facebook event!

Chef Heather Jeong will be showing us what types of meat to get and how to prepare it, along with the different salads and greens that are usually served alongside it. Not only that, she will demonstrate how to make ssamjang and prepare pajeori (green onion salad). And finally, to finish off on a Korean BBQ. Check out the recipes here.

So join our 30-minute LIVE cooking show, and experience a new way to do barbeque in the comfort of your own home. If you would like to know more about Korean BBQ, Heather will be LIVE 5 minutes before the cooking demonstration for a chat and she will stay on after the event to take any questions. All are welcomed to join!

Note: All our LIVE videos can be found here. The link to the actual LIVE video will only be posted in the day itself. Do come back to this page to check for updates.

Iron Chef All Stars: Meet the Chefs

August 17, 2020 by Asian Inspirations Admin Leave a Comment

Sydney Opera House will stage the epic Iron Chef All Stars charity dinner on 2 August where four original Iron Chefs—Rokusaburo Michiba (Japanese), Hiroyuki Sakai (French), Kenichi Chen (Chinese) and Masahiko Kobe (Italian)—will reunite on stage for the first time since the FujiTV program ended in 1997. They will be joined by 2 Michelin Star Kentaro Chen and Asia’s Top Pastry Chef Janice Wong, to deliver a once-in-a-lifetime gastronomic experience for 480 charitable diners.

Joining these six illustrious chefs will be four culinary advisors: Melbourne-based Chef Ikuei Arakane (Kinsan), who is known for modern Japanese creations during his time at Taxi Dining Room; Executive Chef Hal Yamashita, master of Nouvelle Japanese cuisine; Iron Chef Australia Mark Normoyle, Executive Chef of RACV City Club; and Executive Chef Ryo Kitahara, who creates modern Japanese fare in Melbourne.

Proceeds from the dinner will go towards Opportunity International Australia, to help alleviate poverty in Asia.

Experience Japan 2017

August 17, 2020 by Asian Inspirations Admin Leave a Comment

Sydney Opera House will play host to the Experience Japan 2017 fair on the 2nd of August. The day time event will be showcasing the best of Japanese culture, produce, and arts, with performances, tasting stations, and traditional arts and crafts displays.

Highlighting the event will be five Japanese prefectures, who will be presenting visitors with their own unique culture, local delicacies, and crafts. The five prefectures that will be present at the event are:

Ehime

Located next to the beautiful Seto Inland Sea, Ehime’s mild year-round climate makes it ideal for cultivating citrus crops. It is these conditions that make Ehime the top producer of mandarin oranges in Japan. This is a point of pride for the prefecture that its official mascot, Mikyan, is designed and named after the fruit. Due to its coastal location, Ehime is also famous for its sea bream dishes, as well as its sweet confectioneries.

Okinawa

Comprised of a chain of islands that bridge Japan’s main archipelago with the island of Taiwan, Okinawa is known for its truly unique culture that has plenty of Asian and Chinese influences. Famed for its pristine beaches, traditional crafts, and tuna, Okinawa also boasts the highest average life expectancy in the world—a fact that is partly attributed to the local’s diet that is rich in mozuku, a type of seaweed found there.

Nagano

Located in the Chubu region of Japan, Nagano was the site of the 1998 Winter Olympics. Beyond its majestic snow-capped mountains and numerous hot springs, the Nagano prefecture is home to the oldest keep in Japan and towns restored to its 17th century glory. The prefecture is also known for its apples, soba noodles, sake, and traditional crafts.

Niigata

Ranked as the second largest producer of rice in Japan, Niigata is well known for its koshihikari rice, a variety of rice that is grown from the pure water from melted snow in the Echigo mountains, and is considered to be the highest-quality rice produced in Japan. That being said, most of Niigata’s produce is centred around its rice, with the other popular exports being rice wine and rice crackers.

Tokushima

Surrounded by beautiful natural features, the prefecture of Tokushima has no shortage of national parks, and walking trails. Boasting an equal variety and scale is Tokushima’s local culture, with its many museums, Buddhist shrines, and its exuberant Awa Dance Festival. Tokushima is also a famed producer of yuzu and sudachi citrus fruits, and Naruto wakame seaweed.

Experience Japan 2017 will also feature booths from Asian Inspirations, Kirin, Dassai, Kamikatsu, Shoda Shoyu, G’Day Japan, and many more exhibitors. The fair is open to the public between 10am and 4pm on both days, while tickets are complimentary and available from the Sydney Opera House Box Office.
