Glossary

Lychee

Lychee is a small, oval fruit, belonging to the soapberry family. It has a firm, roughly textured, pinkish-red rind that is shelled to reveal a layer of sweet, soft flesh inside. The lychee is native to southern China and is currently cultivated in many parts of the world. The fruit is eaten fresh on its own or added to desserts and served with ice cream. Lychees are available fresh in the summer months, but the canned variety provides convenience and year round sweetness.
