The famed Tim Ho Wan brand arrived from Hong Kong with much fanfare in 2015 and has been a favourite in Chatswood ever since. Started by chef Mak Kwai Pui, Tim Ho Wan Hong Kong had the distinction of being the cheapest Michelin-starred restaurant in the world, and the dishes to enjoy at the Chatswood 100-seater reflect that quality at an affordable price. Try their famous Baked Bun with BBQ pork and the Vermicelli Roll with Sesame Sauce.

Named after the roadside stalls of Kuala Lumpur, Mamak was started by three friends and developed a cult following at the local markets before graduating to its own restaurant in 2010. Fans still queue up to eat their handmade Roti Canai and scintillating Satays. Order ahead for the local favourite, the Murtabak Roti of spicy chicken/lamb, cabbage, eggs and onions.

Tim’s Barbecue Kitchen
Opposite the entry to Westfield is a Chatswood institution—Tim’s Barbecue Kitchen. This humble takeaway is always busy and for good reason—the Roast Duck is stupendously good, the Char Siu is amazing, and the Soy Sauce Chicken is simply the best. Hard-to-find dishes like jellyfish and pig’s ears are also popular and you should get there early for the pork sausage—it always sells out.

It’s banh mi season and the best place to find these delicious Vietnamese baguettes in Chatswood is Saigon Rolls. The pork crackling Banh Mi is sensational! If you’re not in the mood for crunchy bread, try their delicious Lemongrass Chicken Pho or a fresh Grilled Pork Salad.

This funky Japanese Restaurant serves the best ramen in Chatswood. They don’t take reservations, though, so there will be a line up when they’re busy, but it’s worth the wait. Try the Gyokai Black Ramen—pork belly with bean sprouts, shallots, mushroom, sesame, seaweed and nitamago eggs. The Chicken Wing Gyoza and the Octopus Karaage are also highlights.

After making his mark in Chatswood with the western-friendly Khao Pla restaurant, Thai-born chef Taweerach Rojratanavichai holds nothing back in the spice department with his regional-focused Thai offering Chum Tang. Recreating the feel of a Bangkok railway station in the Chatswood Interchange, Chum Tang’s highlights include the fiery wok-fried Crispy Pork Belly with chilli and broccoli, the Poached Tuna with shallot, coconut, dried shrimp and chilli jam, and the thick Red Curry with slow cooked beef, chilli, pea eggplant and lime leaves.
