Following their inaugural event at the famous Old Bus Depot Market last year, Canberra Moon Festival will be held at the Canberra Theatre Centre on October 1 this year. This year the event organisers will be uniting as many cultural groups who celebrate Moon Festival together.
New South Wales
Regarded as one of Sydney’s biggest Asian cultural celebrations, Sydney’s Moon Festival is one of the most well-known Moon Festival events in Australia. Held in Cabramatta, the event is said to attract more than 90,000 visitors annually, and has become a feature event in the state.
This year, Moon Festival celebrations will be held in the Cabramatta CBD on September 24, 2017 with gourmet food and market stalls, and a fireworks display finale.
South Australia
Adelaide will be hosting its 11th Moon Lantern Festival on October 1, which is part of the Adelaide Festival Centre’s OzAsia Festival. The event is held in Elder Park on the banks of the River Torrens, and is said to attract more than 20,000 spectators.
This year, spectators can expect a more focused event, with select food trucks, roving and pop-up performances, and the country’s largest lantern parade.
Victoria
For a vibrant and bustling cosmopolitan city like Melbourne, the annual Moon Festival celebrations, is held at the Queen Victoria Market on September 30 to October 1, 2017 and is known as one of the city’s most colourful events of the year.
The event will feature lion dances, music and cultural performances, noodle-making demonstrations, and mooncakes.
