Every year, we eagerly await the arrival of the Australian mud crab season. From December to April, mud crabs are at their absolute best, so to prepare for their arrival, we’ve found five of Australia’s best places to eat Singapore chilli crab. And if we’ve missed your favourite restaurant, let us know! At Asian Inspirations, we’re always on the hunt for our next meal.
Harry’s Singapore Chilli Crab
Sydney NSW
In Sydney, Harry’s Singapore Chilli Crab is an institution. Since 1982, Harry’s has been dishing out authentic Singapore chilli crab featuring massive Queensland mud crabs. The crabs come with buns and roti to mop up all of the delectable, egg-laced sauce. Private rooms are available for groups, and you can BYO wine.
Satay Ria
Fortitude Valley QLD and Cannon Hill QLD
With two handy locations in Brisbane, Satay Ria has been voted the best Malaysian restaurant in Brisbane, and is dubbed the ‘King of Chilli Crab in Brisbane’. You can’t argue with that. Visit Cannon Hill or Fortitude Valley for giant mud crabs slathered in a luscious chilli sauce.
St James Crabhouse & Kitchen
Brisbane QLD
In Brisbane’s Kangaroo Point, St James Crabhouse offers a multicultural crab experience, with Cajun, French and Asian flavours. Chef Anton Agnal hails from the Fullerton Hotel in Singapore, so you know the Singapore chilli crab is going to be on point. Here, you get to choose your crab from a list that includes Australian blue swimmers, Alaskan king crab, or Jonah crab claws. American-style sides include sweet potato fries, corn on the cob, or fresh-baked baguette.
Crystal Jade
Melbourne VIC
One of Melbourne’s better examples of Singapore chilli crab is hiding in a Cantonese seafood restaurant in Chinatown. Visit Crystal Jade for plump crabs straight from the tank, served in a piquant Singapore-style chilli sauce.
Singapore House
Adelaide SA
For a modern take on chilli crab, hightail it to Singapore House in the suburb of Frewville. Here they serve crispy soft-shell crab with a green apple salad and a lip-smacking Singapore chilli sauce.
