Green Papaya Salad
3 Easy Isan Dishes You Must Try


This tangy Thai Green Papaya Salad is very popular all over the country . It originated in the north eastern Thailand, normally served with grilled chicken, salad and steamed sticky rice.

Ingredients:

300g green papaya (peeled and finely shredded)
4-5 tbsp Som Tum sauce
2-3 tbsp dried prawn (finely crushed)
1-2 tbsp ground roasted peanut
3 cloves garlic (peeled)
5-6 bird eye chilli
1 tbsp lime (cut into small pieces)

Som Tum Sauce

½ cup tamarind puree
½ cup fish sauce
½ cup sugar
1 tsp dried chilli powder (optional)




Steps:
  1. Mixed all som tum ingredients and stir well until sugar dissolved.
  2. Place over low heat until boiling and simmer until the sauce thickens. Leave it cool down before use.
  3. Crush a little bit garlic in a mortar, add papaya and softly crush until softens, mix well, adding som tum sauce. Mix through
  4. Add dried prawn and peanut. Mix well.
  5. Transfer som tum mixture into a serving plate and top with lime pieces.

Note : Carrot can replace green papaya if it is not available
