Braise of Beef with Soy and Star Anise


The perfect dish for a family dinner - mouth-melting tender braised beef cooked with soy. Add star anise to add the perfect taste to this Chinese fusion recipe.

Ingredients:

1.5kg rump steak
2 tbsp oil
6 black peppercorns (cracked)
3 cloves garlic (chopped)
1 tbsp sugar
1 tsp salt
6 slices fresh ginger
3 star anise
3 tbsp red wine
1½ tbsp Lee Kum Kee Premium Soy Sauce
1½ tbsp Lee Kum Kee Panda Oyster sauce
1½ cups hot water
18 baby onions (peeled)




Steps:
  1. Heat the oil in pan and brown beef. Remove from pan and set aside.
  2. Fry garlic and peppercorns. Return beef to the pan with ginger, star anise, wine, soy and water, adding more water if required to cover the meat.
  3. Bring to the boil and cook, covered for 1 hr.
  4. Add the baby onions and continue cooking until the beef and onions are tender.
  5. Season to taste and serve with steamed rice.
