Today kicks off our biggest celebration for 2017 – the Chinese New Year Cooking Contest. Each year, this competition gets bigger and better, with more entries and more prizes. This year, we’re giving away more than $32,000 in prizes, including a five-day trip for four people to Thailand for the grand prize winner – read on to find out how you can Cook, Snap and Win!
Asian Inspirations is all about sharing a love of authentic Asian cuisine. For our Chinese New Year Cooking Contest, we invite you to create your own Asian recipe using at least one eligible Oriental Merchant ingredient. Keep an eye out for the specially marked ingredients in your supermarket. We’re looking for a recipe that engages all five senses, so not only should it taste good, it must also look, smell, sound and feel good!
Once you’ve mastered your recipe, it’s time to present it and photograph it. First and foremost, we eat with our eyes, so follow our tips on plating food like a chef to ensure your dish has the winning look. Photograph your dish using your smartphone or camera, then follow the steps on the competition page.
Each week, Asian Inspirations fans will vote for their favourite recipe via Facebook, so go ahead and enter a new recipe every week if you like! The weekly winners will each receive a $300 dining voucher.
At the end of the competition, we’ll reveal our five Wok of Fame winners based on the best presented Thai, Malaysian, Korean, Japanese and Chinese dish. The Wok of Fame winners will each receive a one-year subscription to Taste Magazine.
The grand prize will be awarded to the entry that demonstrates authenticity, originality and creativity, and is presented in an appealing, modern manner. Valued at more than $29,000, this once-in-a-lifetime prize includes a five-day gourmet experience in Thailand for four people. Highlights include:
Return economy flights to Bangkok from your nearest capital city
Five days (four nights) twin-share accommodation at a four-star hotel in Bangkok
Selected transfers during the trip
Private cooking class
Local market and culinary tour
An editor from Taste.com.au will join you on the tour, and your winning recipe will be featured in Taste Magazine.
