Our foodie New Year’s Resolutions

At Asian Inspirations, we’re mad about cooking, but even we can get stuck in a recipe rut. So, to spice up our kitchen in 2017, we’ve come up with five foodie New Year’s Resolutions. Join us as we celebrate our best year yet!

Try one new Asian recipe each week

From Thai green curries to sweet and sour pork, the average Australian cooks one or two Asian meals per week. This year, we’re keen to up the ante, buy committing to cooking one new Asian recipe each week. Why not kick things off with an easy honey chicken stir-fry, then progress to a mid-level pad Thai with prawns, before really pushing the boat out with a restaurant-quality braised duck that’s as good as any you’ll find in Chinatown.

Reduce food waste

Try as we might, when it comes to the end of the week we often have leftover herbs, vegetables or meats in our fridge. This year we’re making a concerted effort to cut back on food waste. Breathe new life into leftovers with these creative ideas for ham, turkey and duck, or read 5 mind-blowing ways to use leftover spring onions. One of the best ways to cut down on food waste is to plan ahead, so use that bunch of coriander in a Japanese chicken noodle soup one night, followed by a Thai seafood curry the next.

Shop at local markets

We’re all about getting the maximum flavour out of our cooking, and one of the best ways to do that is to cook with the freshest seasonal produce. Trawl the stalls at your local farmers market, or explore the exotic ingredients at Asian markets in Springvale, Footscray, Cabramatta, Haymarket and Sunnybank.

Eat for your health

From nutrient-rich vegetables to gut-friendly fermented foods, we’re giving our diet a healthy Asian makeover in 2017. Embrace the bold flavours and endless health benefits of kimchi, find out why you should add fermented foods to every meal, or discover the Japanese secret to a long life.

Here’s to a happy, healthy and food-filled 2017!
