Interesting Japanese Summer Teas

When in Japan, drink like the Japanese.

Although green tea is known the world-over for its health benefits, here are some interesting Japanese summer teas that are delicious, fresh and extremely popular during summer and are known to have great health benefits alongside cooling the body of excessive heat.

Mugi-cha

Mugi-cha, made from roasted barley, has a nutty and refreshing taste. It’s a common drink in Japan, popular during the summers, drank cold. Packaged mugi-cha is available in Asian grocery stores. Soak the packet in water for half an hour, refrigerate, and enjoy.

Genmai-cha

Genmai-chai is a nutty-flavoured tea made from roasted brown rice. Mix it into your regular green tea and watch the flavour transform. Enjoy this tea piping hot.

Soba-cha

Soba-cha is a roasted buckwheat tea which is extremely popular thanks to its many health benefits. With an abundance of anti-oxidants, this tea is believed to reduce blood sugar levels.

Konbu-cha

Konbu-cha is a savoury tea with a hint of saltiness. It is made from dried seaweed powder. It is also a great substitute for salt while cooking!
