Doenjang is a traditional Korean paste comprising of fermented soybeans, ground into a paste. To make Doenjang, the soybeans paste is placed in large clay jars and left to ferment outdoors. It has been a part of the Korean diet for years because of its health benefits. Doenjang is rich in Vitamin A and Vitamin C.

There are several other health benefits of Doenjang. Like many fermented foods, Doenjang is reputed to be rich in anti-ageing nutrients and daily consumption of Doenjang has been prescribed by many Korea experts. It is also rumoured to lower blood pressure, help strengthen the liver and aid in digestion. Hence, it is often part of healthy recipes.

There are different versions of the Doenjang, with varying levels of fermentation and tastes. You can add it to a stew or a stir fry. It also adds a rich salty flavour to soups and broths. So next time you are in the mood for experimenting, do try adding some Doenjang and enjoy its health benefits.
