Getting to Know Yumberry

Yumberry, also known as the red bayberry or bayberry, is a subtropical fruit native to Asian countries such as China and Japan. This reddish fruit has a juicy, slightly acidic flavour and can be eaten fresh, dried or canned.

The tree produces a ruby-coloured, tangy fruit, which is only harvested for three weeks a year and has a very short shelf life. The flesh of yumberries is fibrous just like citrus fruits with a cavity in the centre. Yumberries are very beautiful in appearance.

Yumberry is known as ‘Super fruit‘, a term coined to describe a group of fruits which are rich in antioxidants and nutrients.

Here are few claimed health benefits of yumberries.

  1. They protect the heart by lowering blood pressure.
  2. They are very effective in lowering high cholesterol levels.
  3. Yumberries help in strengthening cell membranes.
  4. Frequent consumption of yumberries helps lower the risk of cataracts.
  5. Yumberry juice is very good in healing gastrointestinal problems such as difficulties in bowel movements.
