There are primarily two types of Asian soup bowls that come into play when soup is served. Depending on the kind of soup that is being served, you will need to pick one or the other kind.
The simple traditional Asian soup bowl is used to serve clear soups – with a mouth wide enough to easily allow the soup spoon to consume generous quantities of the soup.
The second type of Asian soup bowl is a large and wide, open-mouthed dish that can easily hold generous quantities of the soup broth and the vegetables/ dumplings that constitute the soup.
