10 minute Nuoc Cham Dipping Sauce

Vietnamese dipping sauces come in all kinds of flavours. They are served quite often as condiments. Nuoc Cham is one such sauce – a sweet, sour, salty and spicy sauce – which enriches Southeast Asian cuisine by a great deal.

Why not enrich your own cooking? Here’s a simple 10 minute Nuoc Cham Dipping Sauce recipe to try out at home.

1 garlic clove

3 small red chillies

140 ml fish sauce

130 gm sugar

2 tbsp water

1 lemon, juiced

1. Pound the garlic and chillies to a paste in a mortar. Using a pestle and mortar helps release more flavours but if you don’t have one, you can alternatively chop them finely with a knife.

2. Combine the fish sauce, palm sugar, water, and lemon juice in a bowl.

3. Stir thoroughly until the sugar has dissolved.

4. Stir in the garlic and chilli paste; the chilli should float on the surface.

5. Serve it with rice paper rolls, salads or any of your favourite dishes. Your nuoc cham dipping sauce dish is ready! Enjoy!
