The Straits of Johor

The Straits of Johor (otherwise called the Tebrau Strait, Johor Strait, Selat Johor, Selat Tebrau, and Tebrau Reach) is a strait that differentiates the Malaysian state of Johor (on Eurasian territory to the north) from Singapore to the south.

There are, at present, two man-made area associations over the straits. The Johor-Singapore Causeway, referred to just as “The Causeway”, joins Johor Bahru and Woodlands in Singapore, while an extension, known as the Malaysia-Singapore Second Link, further west of the straits joins Gelang Patah in Johor and Tuas in Singapore.

Straits of Johor‘s most acclaimed vacation destination is the Lido Beach, placed on the Malaysian side of the straits. Here, you can walk or cycle along the 2 km stretch of the shoreline. And if you are very lucky, you may spot a dugong, a rare sea mammal which is known to roam the straits. There are additionally various restaurants and nourishment stalls like Tepian Tebrau where one can test rarities that Johor Bahru brings to the table. There are excellent recipes and dishes to choose from, but here are some of the local specialties that you must try.

Nasi Briyani Gam: Nasi Briyani Gam are forte in Batu Pahat Johor. It is rice cooked with Malaysian herbs and zest, extremely fragrant and mouth watering.

Mee Bandung: This is a dish of yellow ‘mee’ with a unique sauce that usually has cuts of meat, prawns and dried shrimps, together with cracked peanuts.

Asam Pedas Lada Hitam: This dish is prepared with only a few kinds of fish, such as catfish. The twist to this dish is the additional flavours of dark pepper and daun kesum. Asam Pedas are a very popular dish in Asian cuisine, and are relished by tourists and locals alike.

Bakuteh: This is one sort of Chinese nourishment that is well known in Malaysia and Singapore. Bakuteh is a delectable combination of Chinese herbs and pork ribs in a soup style.

Beef Noodle: There is one shop at Johor Jaya Bakawali region call Pandan Beef ball shop which is extremely well known for their beef noodle with meat ball with clear soup.
