Also known as the Temple of the Emerald Buddha, Wat Phra Kaew, is said to be one of the most significant Buddhist temples in Thailand. It is located at Bangkok, in Thailand.
Similar to many other Buddha statues in this Southeast Asian nation, this statue of the Emerald Buddha is decked in seasonal attire that is altered three times a year to match the corresponding seasons. It is raised over several platforms, and no one is permitted to go near the statue except for His Majesty, the king. The king alone has powers to change the statue’s robes when season’s change.
The beautiful portico is a perfect example of expert Thai craftsmanship. Its premises look absolutely divine when decorated traditionally, in keeping with Thai culture. It also has a sense of utmost tranquility about it. The building is home to elaborately decorated buildings, pagodas and statues.
There are many other attractions that clamour for attention in and around the Wat Phra Kaew. The murals inside the temple bring to life the ancient Indian epic, Ramayana. The balcony offers a terrific view of the complex, too.
So, do not miss out on this wonderful opportunity to embrace Thai culture, and take that step toward crossing out this must-visit in Thailand – Wat Phra Kaew – off your list.
