Must-eat in Thailand – Gaeng Liang

Every cuisine in the world has its own distinguishing quality. For instance, when one speaks of Indian cuisine, it puts you in mind of rich colours and spices. When it comes to Italian cuisine, one immediately think of smooth, exotic sauces.

With Thai cuisine, it’s normally curries, broths and soups. The extra attention given to these foods lends this Southeast Asian cuisine its uniqueness, and sets it apart from the cuisines of Malaysia and Singapore.

One of the most delicious soups to come from the rich platter of Thai cuisine is gaeng liang, a spicy vegetable soup that’s packed with taste and nutrition. It is perfect for a cold, wintry night as it’s hot and filling, and leaves you with a feeling of great contentment.

Gaeng liang practically bursts with flavour. With traditional Asian ingredients like shallots, shrimp paste, fish sauce and green chillies adding to the mix, this soup is certainly not easy to resist. Add a bit of chicken stock and prawns to the bowl, and you’ve got yourself a masterpiece.
