Asam Pedas – Must-eat in Malaysia

Asam Pedas, must-eat in Malaysia, literally means ‘sour spicy’. It is a Malaysian classic. Don’t miss out on this home-made delicacy on your next trip to Malaysia. Every cook has their own version with a twist that is special to them. Sambal and tamarind are the key ingredients in asam pedas, making this dish spicy and sour respectively.

Besides Sambal and tamarind, the other key ingredients in Asam Pedas are lady fingers, eggplants, fish, long beans and tomatoes. Flavourful fish such as mackerel, Spanish mackerel, snapper and sting ray are often used in this signature Malay dish.

Since it is best served hot and spicy, enjoy it with some piping hot white rice and you’ve got a winner on your hands. Lunch or dinner, it doesn’t matter. No trip to Malaysia is complete without savouring this local favourite.
