The Year of the Rooster: Why There’s Plenty to Crow About

As we wave farewell to the mischievous Year of the Monkey, the 2017 Lunar New Year welcomes in the Year of the Rooster. Thanks to the rooster’s fiery temperament, the coming year will be filled with enthusiasm and energy, but it will also be a time of immense change.

CNY Rooster

Rooster are communal birds and proud protectors of their family, so 2017 is an ideal time to enter a new relationship – whether it be business or personal – or to welcome a new addition to the family.

Rooster traits

Those born in the Year of the Rooster are loyal, committed and hard-working. Just as roosters used to wake the village in the time before alarm clocks, today’s ‘roosters’ are punctual, good with time management, and natural leaders. Follow the lead of the rooster by seizing the day and taking all opportunities that come your way.

These cocky characters are warm-hearted and charming (and often blessed with good looks), but may be impatient, domineering or selfish at times.

Lucky charms

If you’re a rooster, then this could be a tricky year ahead, as the year of your zodiac is said to be the unluckiest in the 12-year cycle. To try and improve your luck, surround yourself with the rooster’s lucky colours of gold, yellow and brown; choose the lucky numbers of 5,7 and 8; and plant the lucky flowers of cockscomb and gladioli. If avoid further bad luck, steer clear of the colour red, and the numbers 1, 3 and 9.
