February to March 2015

 Yuanyang, China

The Hani Terraced Fields Festival is a major event for the local Hani people in China, who, during this festival, honour the age-old agrarian culture in the bordering mountainous area.

The festival celebrates the Hani terrace farming culture. It is also a grand show of the famous hani terraces which are the highlight of the landscape.

Many cultural performances grab the attention of travellers during this event. They are performed by professional musicians and dancers in the open fields. Actors perform short skits, showcasing the farming process like it used to be several years ago.

Hani Terraced Fields Festival starts on February 28 in Yuanyang County. During this festival, you get the chance to witness and enjoy farming performances in which the popular dancer Yang Liping performs to thunderous applause. The festival continues into March during which the visitors can not only appreciate the beauty of terrace fields, but also appreciate the reenactment of myriad farming activities.
