An exciting event in Chonburi province, Thailand, the Chonburi Annual Festival is a famous competition that has been held for more than 140 years.

Thought it may seem slightly bizarre and unusual to foreigners, this festival is very close the hearts of Thai people. It is considered a very important cultural activity which expresses gratitude to buffaloes. Every year, farmers gather in large numbers to compete with each other on their buffaloes.

Completely out of the ordinary, the event also witnesses a number of unusual events such as buffalo beauty contests, fashion contests, and even a healthy buffalo contest! The most elaborately decorated buffalo cart also stand to win a prize.

The Chonburi Annual Festival is really a spectacle to witness, especially if you aren’t a local. Thai culture in its most entertaining form yet, this event is bound to have you smiling throughout the buffalo festival!
