Head to Hurstville City Council this Chinese new year for  a month-long celebration beginning from 19 January 2016 with activities galore. However, on 30th January, you will see one of the most spectacular street festival that encompasses the best of Asian culture, traditions and arts, peppered with some festive entertainment for the entire family.

The highlight of the street festival for the Year of Monkey is  definitely the special Chinese cooking demo which will he held on this day. The demo will have a live, interactive kitchen where 4 to 5 authentic dishes will be demonstrated.

The other events are the traditional eye-dotting ceremony where the new lion dance costume is placed at the altar. This ceremony empowers the lion to do its duty of protecting the community, along with bringing them good luck, prosperity and health.  The ceremony will be followed by the lion dance. The other attractions are group dance, singing events, lucky draw and fashion parade.

Celebrate the Chinese new year at Hurstville, it has something for everyone! The special kids corner will have fun rides, balloon animals, face painting, barnyard animals and much more.

No festival is complete without good food, and that is something which is found in abundance! The numerous stalls will offer scrumptious and mouthwatering Asian delicacies along with some local favourites! The food is sure to entice your taste buds.

There’s also a cooking demonstration for about 50 people by Asian Inspirations which will have 4-5 authentic Asian dishes.
