1 to 31 March, 2015
Smila Beach, Mueang District, Songkhla, Thailand
The month of March will bring to life the colourful kite festival in Thailand. Smila Beach in Songkhla will play host to the 18th International Kite Festival. With so much fun and colour everywhere, this festival is possibly one of the best exhibition of Thai culture.
A number of stalls will line the Smila beach during the kite festival, selling kites that range from minuscule to startlingly large. A variety of traditional souvenirs are also usually on display in these stalls, so travellers can take back a a memento or two.
Religion, too, plays an important role during this festival. People keep up the tradition of offering alms in accordance with Mon tradition, and also worship the Buddha with fresh blossoms, after washing idols with water that’s poured through a bamboo shoot.
Be sure you get dressed up in traditional Mon attire and attend this exciting event in Thailand.
