My love for cooking started when I first came to Australia 5 years ago. Having no culinary training and knowledge at all, I read cookbooks and watched YouTube videos to learn the kitchen basics.
As a Malaysian, my family loves to eat. However, at that time, because Malaysia had so much of culinary experience to offer that my passion stopped at just enjoying food cooked by all the experts. My biggest motivation is definitely my family, who provides an honest feedback and encourages me to cook better.
I have had many fond memories of Asian food, but the one that still stays fresh in my mind even to this day is the aroma of Nasi Lemak, the taste of authentic curries and comforting feeling of Chinese steamed fish. I have always had a chance to taste food from different cuisines such as Malaysian, Thai, Vietnamese, Japanese and Korean which enriched my culinary experiences.
My cooking styles are simple, comforting and delicious, I try my best to keep my dishes authentic in terms of flavor based on how I remembered them. I love cooking most of the Asian dishes that I pretty much read, try or watch.
To me Cooking is not as difficult as imagined. As long as you have the passion and interest, you can acquire the skills in a jiffy. I always advice people to never give up because practice makes a man perfect (always!).
If there’s one thing that I can never trade with anyone it has to be the Chilli. because after all, a Malaysian can’t live without sambal!
However, I do believe that a pantry can’t exist without the use of essential ingredients such soy sauce, oyster sauce, fish sauce, kaffir lime leaves, lemongrass and pandan. They are like the 10 commandments when it comes to Asian cooking.
I was Ecstatic to say the least. I did not expect that my recipe would win amongst all other recipes. I made the dish from the scratch with Asian ingredients which makes it very authentic. About the choice of restaurant, I must say that I am extremely grateful to Asian Inspirations for choosing Longrain; it is one of my favourite Thai-inspired restaurant. I will be enjoying a special meal with my family with the prize that I have won.
I love all the recipes because it’s made with love and interest for Asian foods. That is what makes it so special and colourful.
It’s a platform for Asian food lovers to be exposed and inspired. As an advocate for Asian food, this is a great way to introduce Asian cuisine to everybody around the world. Here are some of my finished dishes that I’ve been experimenting:
