Wombok (Chinese Cabbage)

The Wombok, or the Chinese cabbage is a native of China and is a sweeter and milder version of Western cabbage. Long in shape, with crinkled green and white leaves, Wombok is known to be highly nutritious and is available all year round. Wombok tastes best in salads, soups and stir-fries. The crunchy heart can be cut up and used raw in salads. You can also shred or cut it into chunks and add it to soups and stir-fries in the final stages of cooking. It wonderfully absorbs flavours and is a favoured accompaniment to rich meat dishes. It is ethylene-sensitive and is not suitable for freezing. You can store it for up to a week in the crisper compartment of your refrigerator.
