Turmeric Powder

A member of the ginger family, turmeric comes from the dried roots of a curcuma longa plant, grown in India and China. Turmeric powder is used as a colouring agent as well as for flavour. It is extensively used in Asian dishes. A very healthy spice, turmeric contains unique aromatic characteristics. It is readily available in the sice section of super markets. It should be packed in airtight tins and stored in a cool, dark place. It loses its potency after about 6 months.
