Bursting with festivities throughout the year, Taiwan's festivities are always a treat to watch. Lanterns glow brightly in the streets, lighting up the towns and cities, delicious dishes from the local traditional cuisine are distributed, and everyone prays for love and prosperity for the rest the year ahead. During the festival, many activities take place all over the country. Thousands of lanterns light up the sky while firecrackers go off outside beautiful temples. People gather close to enjoy the pretty, colourful lights as they twinkle in the sky as an atmosphere of cheer and jollity prevails throughout the day. The Lantern Festival has an important place in the history of Asia. In earlier times, this event was held at the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Park in Taipei. However, since 2011, the event has toured around Taiwan. The Taiwanese Lantern Festival garnered so much international attention, that the American Discovery Channel’s program “Fantastic Festivals of the World” highlighted it as one of the best festivals in the world.
